Leos’ community tea is a roaring success!
Denby Dale Leos, a youth version of the Lions Club, hosting a tea party for senior citizens at the Pie Hall an Old Folks’ Tea in Denby Dale folded last year due to insufficient volunteers.
Young Leos, with the help of their fellow Lions, worked together to organise the event and invite people from Denby Dale, Scissett, Clayton West, Birdsedge, Cumberworth, Emley and Skelmanthorpe.
The party was hosted at the Denby Dale Pie Hall with Denby Dale Community Transport providing buses to get people there.
Illuminated letters LEOS boosted the mood and music was provided by Ukulele Thursday with ballroom dancing by pupils of Scissett Middle School. Local magician Jamie Goth did card tricks for people as they enjoyed the entertainment.
Lions spokesman, Martyn Siddle said: “The aim of the event was to engage with older people and provide a day to remember, one that would be talked about for a long time and an event that people would want to attend again, sometime in the future.
“This was the first event of its kind in Denby Dale and some apprehension was shown as to whether it would be a success.
“We had more than 90 senior citizens on the day, a multitude of helpers and, with entertainers too, the room was jam packed and full of fun and lasting memories.
“The feedback from the people who attended was positive, encouraging and inspiring, credit was given to the Leos for not only their commitment and time, but for their passion, attitude and behaviour.”
