John entertained many during his long career

-

“Is this what taking back control looks like? Our Government quick to blindly follow every order from the Trump White House. Boris has revealed himself to be a poodle of Washington, having his diary managed from across the pond. It is pretty shameful when even Trump judges you to be a buffoon” ELAINE and I were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of John Quinn, a well-known and much respected DJ in the region.

He has been a long-time friend, having entertained us and thousands more over a long career, working at busy venues like Johnny’s, Amsterdam Bar, Broadway etc, pulling in crowds with his warm and professional style.

We were pleased to attend the opening night of his own night club in St George’s Square – ‘Flix’ in the 80s. A buzzing, semiunderground upmarket club which, as he explained “Was virtually dug out by hand, wheelbarrowing out tons of earth,” to create a stunning new venture from an old wool warehouse.

The paint was just about dry as people flocked to acquire membership.

John, if I remember rightly, took over a long-established building company from his dad, and later set up his ‘Hi Spec Concrete’ company using formers to create various elaborate patterns in driveways etc. Wanting to expand his business, he came with a team of workers to test out the market on the Costa del Sol and completed several projects, including one for us, but the work demands back in Yorkshire made him abandon the Spanish idea.

John, I feel sure, will always be remembered as a skilful and enthusiastic presenter at hundreds of parties and gatherings with his music and banter which kept events jumping until closing time.

He will be very much missed by his friends, colleagues and of course family, especially his lovely wife Helen and three children, Gregory, Jasmine and Hannah.
