Hanson handily placed in the Trophee Hasan II

-

WOODSOME Hall’s Chris Hanson was looking handily placed after the second round of the Trophee Hassan II.

Hanson was two under after at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in the latest round of golf’s European Tour.

Hanson, who had finished one over after the opening round, ensured he would make the cut with a three under par second round.

Birdies at the third, fifth and eighth holes laid the foundation on the front nine – though the 31-year-old did drop a shot at the sixth.

On the way back to the clubhouse Hanson added birdies at the tenth and 13th but dropped a shot at the 16th.

There was also a magnificent charge by Howley Hall’s Marcus Armitage who managed to make the cut.

The 29-year-old was three over after the opening round but, despite the boost of a birdie at the opening hole on the second day, he then dropped shots at the second, sixth and seventh on the outward nine.

He did recover his slot at three over with birdies on the eighth and tenth.

That set him up for a remarkable start to the back eight as he notched birdies at 12 and 13 to take himself to two under for the round and one over for the tournament.

Luke Donald continued his love affair with Harbour Town Golf Links as he posted an opening 65 to sit in a share of second place after the first round of the RBC Heritage.

The Englishman has recorded six top-threes in his last eight appearances at the venue and he got off to a strong start on Thursday, carding an eagle, five birdies and a single bogey to get to six under par.

Bud Cauley holds a two-shot lead after producing a flawless 63 to reach eight under, with Donald, American Sam Saunders and Canadian Graham DeLaet in a tie for second.

Donald’s fellow Englishman Ian Poulter was among the group a shot further back on five under alongside Irishman Shane Lowry, Webb Simpson, Danny Lee, Russell Henley and Ben Crane.

Beginning his round at the 10th tee on Thursday morning, former world number one Donald rolled in a 15-foot birdie putt at his first hole before dropping his only shot of the day at the next.
