Woodsome Hall to host Wee Wonders

WOODSOME Hall Golf Club are to stage a regional qualifying round for the Adidas Golf Wee Wonders 2017 Championsh­ips.

The event is open to children aged from five to 12 years, providing a competitiv­e golfing experience for children new to the game or for the most experience­d young players.

Wee Wonders was founded in 1995 by Alasdair Good, head PGA profession­al at Gullane Golf Club.

It rapidly grew to become the only tournament with fully national coverage for children.

The 2017 Grand Final will be held once again at St Andrews on August 26 and 27.

Former Wee Wonders players include famous names such as Matthew Fitzpatric­k, Tyrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood and Charley Hull.

This tournament will be played on a shortened version of the actual course which was designed and implemente­d with great success in 2016.

Junior Golf at Woodsome is thriving with various initiative­s such as the recent launch of the Junior Developmen­t Squad which has attracted 36 juniors to be part of a coaching and developmen­t system run by clubs profession­als John Eyre and Adam Durie.

Woodsome Hall captain Michael Musgrave said: “We are delighted to have been selected to host this prestigiou­s event and we urge young Yorkshire golfers to enter and enjoy the unique surroundin­gs and golfing challenge that Woodsome Hall provides.”

The main event was the Profession­al and Captain’s Challenge with club captain Phil Smith teeing off and members had to guess the combined drives of the captain and profession­al Tom Wild which was 442 yards and the winner was Trevor James.

A field of 21 teams took part in the fourplayer team event and the winners with 94 points were Joe Lester, Josh Lester, Martin Shaw and Joel Marsh. ■■The draw for the Halifax, Huddersfie­ld and District Golf Alliance to be held at Bradley Hall on Tuesday is:
