New activity group will support locals in Mount
A LINDLEY author has debuted with a novel about how technology hinders modern romance – and published it as an eBook.
Writer Victoria Cooke’s eBook ‘The Secret to Falling in Love’ was accepted for publication by HQDigital, an imprint of HarperCollins.
The 36-year-old said: “I admire the irony that my eBook’s main theme is giving up technology. I think it sets the humorous lighthearted tone quite well.”
The romantic comedy’s protagonist is a 35-year-old Manchester-based journalist on a quest to meet the perfect man through online dating – until she has to go technology-free as a research experiment.
“I’ve read many UK romantic comedies set in London, which is another of my favourite cities, but I wanted to change that and show that Manchester can hold its own,” said Victoria.
The married mum-of-two, who lives in Lindley and attended the University of Huddersfield, said her second novel will be set in Yorkshire.

The group is working closely with Mount Forum to meet every two months to identify and tackle issues and problems affecting local residents, through collaboration with local councillors, residents and local agencies.
Vincent Dorrington, Mount Community Group’s acting chairman, said: “Mount Community Group’s aim is to do what it says on the tin.
“We want to bring local people together in order to meet their needs and interests.
“Our hope is to make the community more active and make people aware that their skills and contributions will benefit everyone.”
Mount Community Group will also work with Lindley Community Group and local councillors Cahal Burke and Richard Eastwood.
Clr Burke said: “I’m delighted in Lindley whilst looking out over my lovely garden but I may have been spotted scribbling in a notebook in the friendly coffee shops of Huddersfield,” said the former teacher.
The Secret to Falling in Love is available to download now from all eBook retailers. that Mount Community Group is now up and running.
“The consultation undertaken by the group was really positive with a lot of responses and the feedback will help to shape the initiatives and activities that the group will seek to support and deliver.
“The group is continuing to consult with local people to ensure that local needs are reflected in the aims and objectives of the group.
“I hope that the community group can have a role in improving local services for the community it represents, strengthen local decision-making and work with local groups and agencies to support improvements in the community.”
