I want this goal to be the first of many

push and said: “There should not be one seat left empty when we play Fulham - it’s my personal target to have this stadium sold out.”

Wagner, meanwhile, has no concerns over Town’s busy Easter schedule, with two games in four days.

After dispatching Preston North End in a dramatic, high octane victory at the John Smith’s Stadium, the German Head Coach takes his side to Derby County today (5pm).

But despite previously admitting his side were fatigued during last weekend’s SkyBet Championship defeat away to Nottingham Forest, Town’s boss has no qualms with the quick turnaround of games this Easter period.

Renowned for their fitness and high intensity pressing style of play, Wagner gave his side a few days off ahead of the 3-2 win over PNE while claiming the current situation is akin to playing in midweek.

Due to Huddersfield Town reaching the FA Cup Fifth Round, before eventually being knocked out by Manchester City in a replay at the Etihad, a quick turnaround of games is something Wagner’s side have become accustomed to.

“It isn’t something different to play on a Friday and a Monday as opposed to a Saturday and a Tuesday,” said David Wagner.

“It’s the same, we are used to working under different circumstances, even if it means we are not as fresh as we would like to be.

“But everyone in the Championship has this schedule in which we have to work with.”

Preston boss Simon Grayson was left furious over the decision to award Town the late penalty which ultimately sealed his side’s fate.

Referee Lee Probert awarded the stoppage time spot-kick, which was a decision which aggrieved former Town boss Grayson at the final whistle, making his feelings known to the official as he left the pitch.

“I have seen some bizarre decisions but none more frustrating than this,” he said.

“I have spoken to the players and the referee and seen it on DVD and it’s clear Jordan didn’t push him. It was a very poor refereeing decision.

“I don’t go to see a referee very often but I do when I feel I have a genuine complaint. It’s a more than disappointing decision. The referee says he has pushed him and stamped on him but he must have decent vision to see that.”

Grayson added: “We had a game plan and the players carried it out well. During the game our goalkeeper has hardly had a save to make.

“We showed character and desire and got something out of the game only for it to be taken out of our hands at the end.” IT was a day to remember for Huddersfield Town striker Collin Quaner as he scored the winning goal in the 3-2 victory over Preston North End at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Quaner fired home deep in added time after Aaron Mooy’s penalty was saved by PNE keeper Chris Maxwell following the award of a spot-kick for an off-the-ball incident between Preston’s Jordan Hugill and Town’s Elias Kachunga.

Although Maxwell saved well down to his left, Quaner made sure he was first to the rebound, firing it into the net to send the home fans into rapturous celebrations.

On his winning goal, Quaner said: “It was a great feeling to score my first goal in the Championship, and it was good that I could help the team today.

“In those situations, you just have to be instinctive and I was just fully focused about putting the ball in the net.

“It’s always great to score at your home stadium and especially in front of these fans.

“That was a very important three points for us today, so I leave the pitch feeling very happy.

“The manager said, just keep believing we can win this game, and give your energy to the team, and if you have the opportunity then take it and score.”

The 25-year-old, who moved to Town in January from German side Union Berlin for a reported £600,000, has had a steady start to his Town career.

However, he had only scored one previous goal for Town, that being away at Rochdale in the FA Cup.

On adjusting to life in Huddersfield, Quaner said: “That is just how football works, I just try to put all my effort into the games I play in, and the goals will come.

“I am very happy to be here, the team and fans have made me feel very welcome and I think it has been easy to settle here for sure.”

The win means Huddersfield Town are seven points ahead of seventh-placed Fulham FC and, should other results go their way, a victory over Derby County today should see Town confirm their Play-Off place.

However, Quaner doesn’t want to say anything for definite, but believes the side will just keep going until the job is done.

He added: “We will see at the end, but that is our goal and it is what we are aiming towards for the end of the season.

“We just need to keep playing and winning game after game, and forget about this result and now move onto Monday.”
