LONGWOOD Harriers performed well at the John Newsome Memorial Open Meeting at Thornes Park in Wakefield.

The small team of Longwood athletes acquitted themselves splendidly, achieving three victories and several minor places.

On a hot day, ideal for the sprinters, Under 13 girl Isobel White started the medal haul by taking first place in the 200m– and she later completed the sprint double by taking 100m gold.

Soon after, Under 11 boy Joe White placed third in a hotly-contested 600m, while Under 15 boy Tiger Steel placed second in the 200m. He was later fourth in the 800m.

It was not left to the youngsters to do all the medal winning, however, as rising Longwood senior sprinter Liam Slater won his heat in the 200m, but was placed sixth, ran a brilliant third place in the 100m and, finally, found time to win the triple jump.

Other senior athletes running were sprinter Francesca Robertson, who placed seventh in both the ladies 200m and 400m, and Josh Elderfield who was fourth in the men’s 3,000m.

Other Longwood athletes competing included Under 15 Soraya Crodden, who did the 100m, 75m hurdles and the long jump; Sade Baker was in the Under 15 100m and Kari Baker in the Junior/Senior 100m. Longwood results:
