Easter celebrations graced by ‘donkey’
A HANDCRAFTED donkey’s head added to the Easter celebrations at All Hallows Church, Almondbury.
The objet d’ art, similar to a hobby horse, was used on Palm Sunday to help the congregation remember Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem on a donkey.
During Holy Week there were daily opportunities to think about the suffering of Christ, culminating with a moving service working through all the instruments of torture which feature in the story of the Crucifixion.
All Hallows members joined others in Almondbury Churches Together on Easter Day as they gathered for a 6.30am service at the top of Castle Hill.
This was followed by a breakfast of bacon butties at the Methodist Church before participants joined their own congregations to celebrate the Resurrection.
Easter week was busy at All Hallows with planning for the Grand Spring Raffle in aid of the conservation fund.
Nineteen prizes including a haircut at Nue, a meal at Franco’s, a tray of meat from Keith Dyson butcher and a token for Charlotte’s Ice-cream parlour were presented to the lucky winners.
Parishoners were entertained at the draw by ‘the Ukelele Man’, John Wallis, followed by a cheese and wine supper.
More celebrations were held on the Sunday morning when wine and cake were enjoyed to celebrate the diamond wedding anniversary of Valerie and John Lawrence. A chocolate cake was also enjoyed to celebrate the 13th birthday of Alexander Tolley.
