Kingsmith’s Direct route to success

-

Walker’s experience and defence then got the better of Hamza as he won the last two games to gain a further three points for his team.

In set three, Arak’s serves and attacking play got the better of Nehmiah to comfortably add to the points margin.

Sets four and five helped Kingsmith develop a margin of 99 points with comfortable four-game wins for Stott and Arak over Hamza and Gabriel respectively.

Deighton mounted a recovery in sets six and seven. Nehmiah beating Walker and Hamza beating Arak in what was possibly the best attacking play by both players seen in the final.

With two sets to play Deighton were trailing by 90, but still had the advantage knowing their 114 points handicap would be added at the end.

In the eighth set, Kingsmith reduced the points difference by 23 points as Stott took command right from the start to beat Nehmiah 11-5 11-3 11-5 11-8.

This set up the ninth and final set of the match between Walker and Gabriel, with Deighton holding a slim one-point advantage after taking account of the handicaps.

The result was never in doubt as Walker’s defence was far too steady for Gabriel in a victory that took Kingsmith home by a net margin of 19 points.

Stott was the man of the match, winning all his games for Kingsmith, but he was well supported by Arak and Walker.
