Town end season in winning fashion

-

The Huddersfield Town Ladies players went for an end of season meal at their player sponsor Grappolo and are pictured with Grappolo’s owner Hamid Mehrgan came on the 10th minute when Emily Heckler headed wide.

However, apart from that missed opportunity, Town seemed sluggish and off the pace, so much so that with 15 minutes gone West Brom opened the scoring.

Kate Mallin sent a direct free kick just over the West Brom bar late on in the first half.

Town began the second half better and they produced a shot in the first minute of the half when Charley Evans curled a shot just over the bar.

Town came even closer five minutes later as Heckler crashed a shot off the Albion post.

It wasn’t until the hour mark that Town got their equaliser, Katie Nutter making a brilliant run into the box to then poke the ball home.

Town took the lead just three minutes later as Mallin scored with her left foot from close range.

West Brom then had a period of dominance and should scored with two great efforts.

The first was a one-on-one opportunity which Town keeper Charlie Kenyon saved.

The second was a powerful shot from the Baggies striker which smacked the ball against the Town post.

Town hung on though to grab a well earned victory in what has at points been a disappointing season. NORWICH have considered Lincoln boss Danny Cowley as they continue their search for a new manager.

The managerless Canaries have been impressed with Cowley and his brother Nick, who is assistant at Sincil Bank.

The duo have been on the club’s radar but the jump from the Imps to the Sky Bet Championship is thought to be too soon this time.

The brothers guided Lincoln back into the EFL following the Imps’ National League title triumph last month and the Cowleys also took the club to the FA Cup quarter-finals, becoming the first non-League side to reach that stage in 103 years, losing to Arsenal 5-0.

The pair signed new deals until 2021 in January but their compensation clause is not believed to be huge.

Grimsby and Nottingham Forest have previously been interested in the brothers, who have shone in their first season in full-time management, which also included an FA Trophy semi-final defeat to York.

They had previously combined their jobs at former club Braintree with their work as PE teachers.

Braintree finished third in the National League in 2015-16, losing to Grimsby in the play-offs, despite having one of the division’s smallest budgets. THERE was no joy for Golcar United’s second string in the West Riding County Amateur League’s Division One Cup final.

In the showdown played at Tingley Athletic’s ground they faced Bradford outfit Route One Rovers and were beaten 3-0.
