Double whammy for Milnsbridge as Bistro title goes along with record

thanked Kieran O’Prey and Mark Atkinson for their help in running the competition.

Dyson hopes there will be a bigger field than 32 next summer and, indeed, encouraged bowlers to make entries for the Huddersfield events much bigger.

“The entry should be twice what it was really – 32 is pretty poor when it’s in honour of someone like Paul – but then all the comps seem to be struggling for entries at the moment,” explained Dyson, who is on the Huddersfield executive.

“We are constantly thinking of ways to improve entries and we’ve tried things like Friday qualifiers and one-day events, but this year entries seem to be half of what they used to be.

“Huddersfield has plenty of events to go at, so there are plenty of opportunities to play, but people just don’t seem to be too bothered at the minute.” BISTRO Knockout champions Milnsbridge A have been knocked out in the first round.

They lost to Kirkheaton C&BC A from Section 2 102-93.

There were just two other giantkilling feats, with Meltham C from Section 4 beating Section 2 opposition in the form of Thorpe Green – even though they had only eight bowlers the 23-point gap difference means they would still have gone out with a full team.

It was a really good day for the Meltham club with all three of their teams progressing to Round 2.

One tie was drawn with the all-Section 2 clash between Hemplow and Kirkheaton Con ending 97-97, with the Cons progressing courtesy of having more winners (3-2).

Milnsbridge A also lost the League’s last unbeaten record when going down to a rejuvenated Lockwood Con 7-2 in Section 1.

The top four teams all lost, but the top three retain their leading positions.

Netherton Con stay top after surprisingly losing 6-3 at Lindley Lib, while even more surprising was Meltham A’s 6-3 home defeat by Rastrick who were claiming their

Clayton West drop a slot after losing 7-2 at Golcar Lib and are overtaken for fourth place by Elland C&BC A, who had a 7-2 home win over Cowcliffe.

Just three points now separate the top five and with Lockwood Con moving closer in sixth place the battle for honours is really on this season.

Rastrick’s first win was sufficient to lift them off the foot of the table and condemn Shepley to bottom spot after losing at home to Waterloo, who were winning for the fourth consecutive game and continue their charge up the table.

If it is close in Section 1, it is gridlocked in Section 2 with four teams sharing the lead, all on 33 points.

The best aggregate means that Brockholes A move into pole position after a 6-3 home win over Kirkheaton C&BC A.

Hemplow were the only other top-four winner.
