Girl rescued at Splash Park

-

THE Splash Park has been shut at Huddersfield Leisure Centre after a serious incident.

Reports suggest a three-yearold girl has been pulled from the water and given resuscitation treatment at the poolside yesterday lunchtime.

Police confirmed they were called to the centre at 12.10pm and a police spokesman said that a child had suffered “a medical episode” but it is “not life-threatening’.’

A spokeswoman for Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) the charitable trust which manages the leisure centre, said: “We can confirm an incident has taken place at Huddersfield Leisure Centre.

“Emergency services have been in attendance. Unfortunately, KAL do not have any further details available at this time. Further information will be released in due course.

“The Splash Park at Huddersfield Leisure Centre is likely to remain closed until further notice.”

The leisure centre, along with the competition and training pool, are staying open as usual.

An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said the pool alarm was triggered, adding: “They dragged a little girl out of the water and started CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).

“They cleared the pool and all staff arrived to help. Paramedics came very quickly.

“Staff supported the man and boy who were with the girl.

“Paramedics took the girl out to their ambulance and police were also at the scene. Staff acted very quickly and efficiently.”

Sherri Louise Wheal added: “They were giving her CPR. We were told to leave the pool and unsure if the girl was awake when she left for hospital.

“One of the staff told me they got her breathing again.”
