Pair grab Nest’s Buckwell Trophy
HUDDERSFIELD won the Glen Brae-sponsored Union Scratch Team Championship – making course knowledge count in the event hosted at Fixby Hall.
The Huddersfield team of Richard Broadley, Adam Robinson and James Skirrow produced a strong performance to win the gross team prize, playing solidly on their own course.
It was a double success for Broadley, who also won the two-round individual competition with a firstround 74 followed by a second-round 70 for a 144 total.
That score was matched by Hanging Heaton’s Scott Minto, who had a 71 score in the first round and then 73 in the second, only to lose on the countback.
The nett prize went to Lightcliffe who had the excellent total of 438 from their trio of Matthew Holden, Freddy Stoker and Frazer Schofield.
Just to add to the drama there was a hole-in-one from Hebden Bridge’s Ian Powell, who produced his ace on the 17th hole in the second round.

Crow Nest Park GC’s annual battle for the Buckwell Trophy is a pairs event where couples enter their names and then there is a blind draw, so who will be the winning pair is never predictable.
A field of 16 pairs played in the Greensomes format with the winning pair being Murphy and past Crow Nest Park president Haverstock, with a net score of 64.4.
