Duo through to national finals

TWO golfers from Halifax and Huddersfield are both one step closer to playing with a star of the European Tour after qualifying for the national final of Bridgestone’s Chase Your Dream Trophy.

Mandy Holden from Halifax West End Golf Club, and Andrea Wallis from Crosland Heath, both qualified at the regional event staged at Windermere.

Both produced nett scores of 68 and go forward to the final in England Golf Week at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, in August.

The winner there will be England’s female Handicap Golfer of the Year and the top nine players in the field will play in the pro-am of the Bridgestone Challenge, the English leg of the Challenge Tour, at Luton Hoo on September 6.

Holden, playing off a handicap of 12, said: “We couldn’t have played golf on a nicer day. The course was superb and I can’t wait to go back.

“It’s a tough course, where you have to keep out of the rough because of adders! I avoided them and played extremely well.”

Wallis, 58 who plays off a handicap 19, added: “Everything went to plan on the day and it was a great day on a beautiful course.

“I had to play a bit tactically and avoid the hazards and I performed really well. I’m looking forward to Woodhall Spa and I hope I can perform as well as I did at Windermere.” ■■The annual Outlane Golf Club Texas Scramble went to the wire.
