Village gears up for the carnival and road race

DANCE students dazzled their audience with impressive moves at Huddersfie­ld New College‘s spectacula­r dance showcase.

Welcome to the Funhouse featured a wide variety of pieces, choreograp­hed by students and teachers, with a circus theme running throughout.

The students performed a range of styles including acrobatics, jazz, contempora­ry, commercial, ballet and tap.

Joanna Gray, course leader for dance at the college, said: “I am extremely proud of how much our dancers have developed as performers throughout this performanc­e project.

“The show highlighte­d their skill and versatilit­y as dancers.

“They have achieved such a lot in such a short space of time in putting this show together and this is a huge credit to PREPARATIO­NS are in full swing for this year’s Lindley carnival and 10K race.

The family friendly event takes place on Saturday, June 24, at the Fern Lea playing fields from 1pm.

As this year’s carnival coincides with Armed Forces Day, this will be the event’s theme.

Family entertainm­ent is at the heart of the carnival and organisers hope that this, the 10th annual event, will be the best yet.

Games, rides, food stalls will be on hand, in addition to performanc­es by Lindley Junior School choir and Lindley Infant School Choir.

Churches will be getting involved and will offer refreshmen­ts and entertainm­ent on their stalls.

Local businesses will also be well represente­d with many supporting the prize draws and having their own stalls on the day.

This year staff from Skipton Building Society will be attending to help both customers and non-members get to know the society better.

Everyone visiting the stand will have the chance to enter a free prize draw to win a Marks & Spencer hamper worth £50.

Customer adviser Stephanie Bevan said: “We are delighted to be attending the Lindley Carnival.

“We are always keen to get to know our customers and members better and attending shows like this is one way we believe we can build a better relationsh­ip with them.”

The following day, on June 25, hundreds of runners will take part in the Lindley 10K. The race starts and finishes on Lidget Street near to the library and raise funds for charities. their hard work and commitment to the work. ‘‘

All year 1 and 2 dance students took part in the final assessed dance showcase of the year.

Participan­ts Rebekah Maybury and Connor Paga said the show was a great way to end their two-year dance course.

They added: “It was an amazing show to put together and to perform in.
