Concert for Georgie by theatre arts pupils

-

MORE than 100 dance students will perform in Huddersfield in memory of their founding teacher.

The Georgie School of Theatre Arts, based at Barncliffe Mills, Shelley, was founded by Donna George in 1992.

Donna died suddenly following a brain haemorrhage in October 2013, aged just 48.

On June 17 and 18 about 160 students aged from three to 18 years will take to the stage at the Lawrence Batley Theatre to mark the 25th anniversary of the school.

The aspiring young stars will perform classics from shows of the past, alongside new leading-edge jazz, tap, modern, ballet and street dance routines.

Donna’s husband Ken, said: “Our anniversary show, ’25 Years Strong’ will be a celebration of what the Georgie School of Theatre Arts has achieved over the last twenty-five years.

“It will be a showcase of talent, entertainment and nostalgia.

“Donna was a much loved, inspirational teacher, who fulfilled her ambition to create a dance school driven by passion, talent and teamwork.

“Her vision continues under the direction and expert tuition of dance teacher Adele Swales, together with our small team of staff and the commitment and support of our amazing students and their families.

“I am enormously proud of the dedication of our staff and students, who continually strive to ‘raise the barre.’’

Tickets for the shows can be obtained from the Lawrence Batley Theatre or online at www.thelbt.org
