Giants looking to keep impressive loan star Ridyard

-

HUDDERSFIELD Giants loan signing Martyn Ridyard could be set for a longer stay at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The 30-year-old half back’s current loan spell from Super League rivals Leigh Centurions finishes next week, but Giants head coach Rick Stone says moves are already being made to try and extend the deal.

“Martyn has been really good for us,” said Stone.

“When Danny Brough was suspended for a couple of games Rids came in and did really well for us.

“We didn’t have many options at half-back, but he put his hand up and wanted to help us out and he has really enjoyed having the chance.

“He also has enjoyed being at the club and Rids says he is happy to stay with us as long as we want him.”

The Salford-born player has made a telling contribution on the scoring front with his goal kicking, but Stone was more impressed with the Leigh player’s game management and would like to keep him on board.

“At this point he still has a week left with us, but we have already spoken to Leigh and we will have to see how that pans out,” explained Stone.

“We have been very happy with his contribution, his kicking game and his organisation.

“He manages a game pretty well and complements the players around him and gets on well with the boys.”
