Again on the last

-

lous par three from behind the 17th green gave him an opportunity down the last. Unfortunately he overshot the green, removing the chance to halve his match.

Calvert lost the 16th hole to be one down but immediately bounced back at 17th with a super putt for par. All square playing the last.

Barron made a superb par at 16th from the trees and then made a good putt to halve 17. Again, all square going down the last.

Calvert halved with a safe par down the last, so it was all on Barron to halve the match.

Busfield played his approach to 20ft and Barron to 9ft.

Team manager Frank Greaves was asked: “Should we tell Fergus he needs to win the hole?”

Greaves answered: “I think with 30 people watching he may know.”

No birdie putts holed at the last, match result 19–17 to Bradford.

Nine matches in all went to the last, showing what a close encounter it was.
