VICTORY TAKES HEAD COACH RICK STONE’S TEAM INTO TOP SEVEN BUT MAMO AND LEEMING HURT

-

But even though Stone was delighted to see his Giants take a massive step towards securing a place in the Super 8s, he admitted the knocks to full-back Mamo and hooker Leeming meant it was far from being the perfect evening.

“Results-wise, Friday night’s win over Saints has given us a really good feeling,” said Stone.

“In the last couple of weeks we’ve had some pretty comfortable wins over Warrington and Catalans, but the way we against Saints was really satisfying.

“As far as I’m concerned, it was the toughest and most courageous since I’ve been here.

“We had to dig deep mentally after the demands of playing in the heat in Catalans the week before and had to overcome some adversity with the injuries to Jake Mamo and Kruise Leeming.

“But the boys hung in there and found a way to win a tight game, which we haven’t done on many occasions before.

“We’ve now moved up a place in the table to seventh, and can strengthen our position further with a home win over Wigan on Friday night. So this is another big game coming up for us.”

But Stone admits he’s still unsure at this stage whether Mamo or Leeming will feature.

“They’ve had to go for scans and we’re now waiting for the results,” added Stone, who hopes to get new signing Jordan Rankin into England at some stage this week.

“Jake’s foot’s pretty sore, while Kruise is in a bit of discomfort with his jaw. We’ll just have to see how it goes.

“But we do remain hopeful, just as we do with Ukuma Ta’ai.

“He was probably 50-50 to make his return from a back problem the other night, so hopefully after a couple more sessions this week he’ll be good for Wigan.”
