Floyd onslaught in rapid Shield victory

-

(41), Steven Broadbent (42) and Daniel Jones (58) gave Delph what looked like a workable total.

Floyd blew those theories out of the water, however, with a vicious onslaught of boundaries and, with Greaves contributing 57 not out, Floyd ensured Scholes got home in just 25.4 overs.

Holmfirth – mid-table in the Jedi Sports Championship Two – enjoyed at cracking Shield win against top-flight high-riders Hoylandswaine.

Opener Mikki Battye-Wood (36), Gareth Myers (39), Tom Garrety (37) and No8 Gregg Thornton (31) took Holmfirth to a 200 all out total off 44 overs, with Jack Lockwood taking an excellent five for 20 and Josh Holmes three for 41.

The Hoylandswaine top-order batting didn’t fare quite so well against Garrety, who set them back with three for 37 as first change, and with Tony Wilkinson picking up two for 20 and Thornton two for 37, it was left to Glyn Brown to finish off the visitors for 128 with a late haul of three for eight.

Premiership leaders Kirkburton went through with the help of a five for 14 haul from Rob Kettlewell against Linthwaite.

Kirkburton totalled 167 at Riley Lane, with Dale Winterbottom topscoring on 39, and then bowled out the visitors for 95 with Kettlewell and John Carrington (three for 11) in dominant form.

Associate Members Edgerton & Dalton are the only first team through after skittling Honley Seconds for just 61 – Nadeem Rafiq taking three for four, Asim Rafiq three for 25 and Ismail Mayat three for 12.

West Indian overseas signing Hiram Shallow made sure there were no problems for Edgerton in recording a nine-wicket win with 34 not out, Ismail Mayat contributing 20 as the semi-final line-up was completed. TOBY Roland-Jones again pressed his England Test claims as he spearheaded an innings and 64-run Middlesex victory inside three days against Yorkshire at Lord’s.

England start their four-match series against South Africa at Lord’s on July 6, and Roland-Jones has a strong case to be included.

Roland-Jones took his season’s first-class wicket tally to 22 at 31 runs apiece as Yorkshire were bowled out for 208 and 174 after being asked to follow on in reply to Middlesex’s first innings’ 446. Middlesex take 23 points and Yorkshire just three.

On a pitch producing more variable bounce, the accuracy and pace of Roland-Jones and Tim Murtagh made them a testing proposition and, with Ollie Rayner, Steven Finn and James Franklin also chipping in, Middlesex made sure of their first Specsavers County Championship victory.

It has been a frustrating start to their title defence for the champions, who lost one and drew four of their first five matches, but they will now go to Chelmsford next week to take on early Division One pace-setters Essex with renewed belief that this result will kick-start their four-day campaign. .........................................................
