-

HUDDERSFIELD produced a fantastic 48-8 win against bottom club Castleford in the Yorkshire Veterans Inter-district League.

Sponsored by Bluebird Care Kirklees, the Vets won 20-8 in the away match at Rothwell and followed up with a home whitewash, 28-0 at Milnsbridge BC.

The next match is against Bradford on Friday, June 30, when the home venue is again Milnsbridge BC.

The Huddersfield Veterans Association thanked Milnsbridge BC for providing an excellent green (prepared by their greenkeeper John Davies).

Officials of the club were thanked, and the ladies who provided a splendid table of light refreshments, for which all players and spectators expressed their appreciation.

They have conceded that title for the last three years to Lockwood Con but now sit proudly seven points clear approaching the half-way mark of the season.

In their latest challenge they saw off second-placed Clayton West 6-3.

Behind them, Clayton West hung on to second place and lead a trail of six contenders separated by six points.

That pack contains champions Lockwood Con, 8-1 winners over Lindley Lib A, who seem to be finding some sort of form after a stuttering start.

Elland followed up their big win over the leaders with an impressive 7-2 away win at Almondbury BC A.

A surprise 7-2 home defeat for Netherton Con A by lowly Rastrick saw them drop three places to sixth.

Cowcliffe lost 8-1 at Waterloo A while fellow strugglers Shepley recorded their second win of the season, 7-2 over Golcar Lib to lessen the gap to just one point at the foot of the table.

The Section 2 week started with three teams level on 54 points at the top of the table.

Two of those teams played each other and a 7-2 home win for Thonsgbridge still wasn’t enough to send them clear at the top, but it did drop Broad Oak to fourth place.

An 8-1 home win over Meltham B for Crosland Moor sent them clear at the top.
