Rankin is ready to claim a shirt

territory for Rankin, having played nearly 50 games in the colours of Hull FC – scoring 186 points from 21 tries and 51 goals for the Airlie Birds in 2014 and 2015.

However, Rankin feels that Super League has not seen the best of him and said: “I still feel I have got a lot of potential and that I have got something to show in Super League.

“I certainly believe I have the potential to play regular first grade and that is what I will be looking to do here. I’m looking forward to being a Giant.”

Rankin has initially signed for head coach Rick Stone’s side for six months, but his arrival is all about both parties working towards a longer deal.

In many ways Rankin’s appeal is that he can play from full-back, through all the three-quarters and in the half backs, but the player feels he needs to focus on one or two positions if he is to earn the regular first-team slot that has eluded him at times and that he craves.

“What I really want to do is lay claim to one or two positions,” said Rankin.

“It is a matter of fitting at first, but I have six months here and the plan is to find my feet and then we can be looking at working together longer.

“But I am really looking forward to it and I have to say the opportunit­y they offered truly outweighed others that I got – including NRL clubs.”

Rankin’s debut looks set to come as a replacemen­t for the currently injured Jake Mamo at full-back.

Initially, it seemed that Rankin’s arrival had been more than timely as half-back Martyn Ridyard picked up a shoulder injury in the Giants’ 19-19 draw at home to Wigan Warriors that looked set to keep him out of the trip to Salford.
