Willy signs for champions after City exit
CHELSEA have announced the signing of goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
The 35-year-old Argentinian was available as a free agent after being released by Manchester City at the end of last season.
Premier League champions Chelsea were in the market for a new goalkeeper after selling back-up Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth in May. ■■Southampton have signed Poland Under-21 defender Jan Bednarek from Lech Poznan on a five-year deal.
The 21-year-old becomes new manager Mauricio Pellegrino’s first addition and will link up with the Saints later this month due to his involvement at Euro 2017.
Centre-back Bednarek, who reportedly cost £5million, told the club’s official website: “I am so happy that I could join a club like Southampton.
“This is the moment I have worked for that makes my dreams come true.
“It only gives me motivation to work hard, to show my skills and to help Southampton to get better and better.
“I think it’s a good step for me, because I have heard Southampton is such a good club for young players, so I can improve here.”
Fellow defender Jack Stephens has also signed a new five-year deal at St Mary’s.
The 23-year-old impressed after nailing down a first-team place following Virgil van Dijk’s seasonending injury in January.
England Under-21 international Stephens, who has been with Southampton since he was 17, is highly rated by the club. ■■Watford have signed Spanish rightback Kiko Femenia and Austria Under-21 goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann.
Former Spain youth international Femenia, 26, joins from Alaves on a four-year deal having played 31 times in LaLiga last season to help the club to a ninth-place finish.
Femenia started his career as a winger and has also played for Hercules, Barcelona B, Real Madrid B and Alcorcon.
Bachmann has penned a threeyear contract at Vicarage Road after six seasons at Stoke.
The 22-year-old has been called up to Austria’s senior squad in each of the last two international breaks. ■■Italy international Angelo Ogbonna has signed a new five-year deal at West Ham, the Premier League side announced on Friday.
The 29-year-old missed almost the entire second half of last season having undergone knee surgery in January, returning only for the Hammers’ final Premier League game of the campaign in a 2-1 win at Burnley.
Ogbonna has now penned a fresh contract to keep him at the London Stadium until 2022.
