Inspectors award ‘good’ grade to Fartown school

A CONGREGATI­ON in Fartown has raised nearly £900 for Kirkwood Hospice.

Hospice fundraiser Nicola Jane gave a talk at the Sikh Temple in Fartown and shared with the congregati­on its role providing end of life care over the past 30 years.

Those attending the talk raised £642 and Gurbaksh Kaur Khalsa also generously donated another £100.

President Manjit Singh said: “We added the money raised to an event we held last and have now presented Kirkwood Hospice with a cheque for £870.” trust each other’s judgement.

“But it’s not just the staff – it’s the community, the parents and the pupils too. I know it’s corny, but I believe one person can’t change a whole school, it has to be everyone working together.”

The Ofsted report stated: “The headteache­r and his senior leadership team have an uncompromi­sing ambition for the school.

“Their strong leadership has led to much better teaching, much improved behaviour and higher achievemen­t for pupils.”

It continued: “Leaders have taken effective action to eradicate weaker teaching and increase the proportion of good or better teaching.

“As a result, teaching is good overall and the progress made by pupils has accelerate­d over time.”

The report particular­ly praised leadership in science, which includes the heads of department Danni Samuel and Nadia Akhtar.
