Friendship extended as Greenacres throws its doors open
RESIDENTS at a Meltham care home invited the local community to help them celebrate Care Home Open Day.
Greenacres residents were involved in planning the event, part of a UK-wide initiative to connect care home residents with local communities, developing lasting relationships and encouraging intergenerational rapport.
This year’s theme was “Friendship” and Greenacres, on Huddersfield Road, hosted various events to celebrate friendships between residents, families, friends and staff as well as their neighbours.
Singer Rick Fry entertained at the residents’ request. Marjorie Abbot, who has lived at Greenacres for 15 months, said, “Rick lights up the room when he comes, he gets everyone singing!”
The kitchen team prepared cupcakes for residents and their guests, which they enjoyed with a glass of Pimms.
Home manager Sarah Tomcyznski said, “Everyone had a great time for Care Home Open Day. It is so important for our residents to continue to feel a part of the local Meltham community and Care Home Open Day is one of the ways which we maintain and build this important relationship.”
Greenacres provides residential and dementia care for 64 residents and offers and an active social environment with events, trips and daily activities on offer.
