Ridyard waits for a decision

-

HUDDERSFIELD Giants on loan Martyn Ridyard does not know if he can play against parent club Leigh Centurions on Friday.

The half back has been a revelation for the Giants since initially joining on a month’s loan in May.

That deal was extended until the end of the season with the 30-year-old having had such a positive effect on Giants head coach Rick Stone’s side as they forced their way out of the bottom four.

They have lost just once in the six games in which Ridyard has featured and he exerted his calming influence as he returned from a shoulder injury in Friday’s 40-0 destruction of Widnes Vikings.

That has put Giants on the verge of securing a crucial Super 8s spot – something they will achieve if they beat the bottom-placed Centurions in their penultimate regular season round match at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“I don’t think I can play in that match but I didn’t check the deal to be honest,” said Ridyard.

“It probably is up in the air a bit but I am under contract to Leigh for next season.” ■■Ben Westwood and Junior Sa’u have been charged by the RFL following incidents in last week’s Betfred Super League fixtures.

Westwood has been charged for a Grade D dangerous throw following a tackle during Warrington’s victory over Leigh Centurions.

The veteran forward has been cited for a tackle on Leigh’s Danny Tickle and could be suspended for a maximum of five matches when his case is heard on Tuesday.

Sa’u has received a Grade B high tackle charge following a tackle that knocked out Leeds centre Kallum Watkins.

The Red Devils ace was sin-binned for the incident but could now be suspended too. Watkins will miss Leeds’ pivotal game with Hull FC due to concussion protocols.
