A REVIVED funfair proved to still be popular when more than a thousand people turned out for it.

Elland Children’s Treat was originally established in the 1930s but had an intermittent history.

Susan Montey, chair of the Elland Children’s Treat committee, who has 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, helped to rekindle it in 2013.

The Treat was held this year at Huddersfield Amateur Football Club in Elland.

Mrs Montey, 70, said: “I’d like to thank the local businesses because they are so supportive. “We tried to cater to all age groups. “As always, the Punch and Judy show was a

favourite.

“Everyone seemed to have a good afternoon.

“They all wanted to come back next year.”

As well as the puppet show, there was a rodeo bull, hook-a-duck, a paddling pool, a bouncy castle and a photo booth.

About 30 local businesses set up stalls around the perimeter of the pitch.

Wilkinson Woodward Solicitors’ Bearder Charity funds the free event.

There was also a raffle and tombola which included vouchers from local restaurants and shops including Brosters Farm Shop in Lindley Moor, as well as bottles of wine.
