Best to choose oysters of world over EU limpet

-

Patrick Stewart, actor Harrison Ford, actor Roger McGuinn, rock musician Erno Rubik, Rubik’s Cube inventor, Michael Spinks, former boxer, Cameron Crowe, film director, Ian Hislop, Private Eye editor, PEOPLE can be forgiven for becoming increasingly weary of hearing the dwindling band of Remainers who constantly moan about the fact that we are leaving the EU.

It is no good hankering after what is now history; we have to look forward with optimism and determination.

We are leaving the EU to take back control of our sovereignty and laws; we are leaving the single market to take back control of immigration and we are leaving the customs union so that we can strike trade deals with countries outside of the EU.

The future for Britain, our children and grandchildren, lie in the wider world being our oyster and not just the EU limpet. Yes, we want the best deal with the EU which I am convinced we will get. It is in both our interests so to do, but the opportunities in the wider world are enormous.

At the G20 talks last week President Trump has promised a “quick and very powerful trade deal” with the USA.

China’s leader says it will be a “golden age” between them and the UK when we leave the EU.

Mrs May, acknowledged to have had her reputation enhanced by the G20 conference, states she had very constructive dialogue on trade deals with the prime ministers of Japan and India.

Australia, New Zealand and over 120 other countries have all said they are anxious to make trade deals with Britain. These markets dwarf the mere 500 million of the EU.

To the few remaining Remoaners who refuse to accept the democratic will of the people and Parliament I say this: Article 50 was triggered with a big majority and in last month’s General Election 80%, yes 80%, of those who voted did so for parties who wished to leave the EU and the single market.

Get over the past. Embrace the future and let’s get on this journey to a brighter horizon together.

Presumably trumpeting the spurious and wishful claims of the Brexiteers is fine, “patriotic” even, despite the widely held view that the country will suffer when we leave the EU.

How can shooting ourselves in the head and the EU in the foot be considered patriotic?

Whenever I read the foolish claims of those who will not see the catastrophic impact that Brexit will have on our economy and our NHS and social services I will always respond. Self censorship should enable those who do not agree with me to ignore my “moans”; just as they ignored the information from the Remain campaign. PETER Ostrowski talks about super groups (Feedback, July 8).

In the 1970s there were some great musicians around so where do I begin? Peter’s choice was mainly blues-based but I would look in other areas as well so I’d name these.

Bill Nelson from Be Bop Deluxe on guitar and Burke Shelley from Budgie on bass. Drums I would go for Jon Hiseman of Colosseum, keyboards would be Dave Greenslade of the band Greenslade and vocals I would go for Nazareth’s Dan McCafferty – he is versatile and has a good voice.

Looking at other great guitars there is Mick Bolton from UFO, Robin Trower from the RT Band Paul Kossoff from Free on bass.

There is also Huddersfield’s own Dave Hewitt from Babe Ruth, Jack Casady from Jefferson Aeroplane, Felix Pappalardis from Mountain – he was producer for Green as well.

On drums there is Bill Ward from Sabbath and Budgie’s Ray Phillips. Good female vocalists were Elkie Brooks from Vinegar Joe, Maggie Bell from Stone the Crows and Jacintha Hacia from Babe Ruth. THE main police station does not need to be in prime real estate. On an industrial estate will do the job – and put the sub-stations in local supermarkets, where their customers are.
