OUT OF THE ORDINARY

-

Pub regulars from all over the country have been nominating Britain’s most extraordinary boozers – and now it’s time to have your say and help choose your local winner.

We teamed up with John Smith’s to find pubs that – just like its beer – are Only Ordinary By Name, and the entries have flooded in.

Your local finalists have now been selected, and it’s up to you to decide which one is the winner in your area. It’s a tough choice – all of our finalists are pubs that might seem ordinary at first glance but have an extraordinary story to tell.

So read about your two shortlisted finalists here, and then vote online for your favourite Only Ordinary By Name pub.

The pub with the most votes will be crowned as the local winner of the Only Ordinary By Name competition, and receive a £300 prize. It will then go forward to the national final, where there is a £5,000 prize to be won.

That includes £500 for the winning landlord or landlady as a reward for running Britain’s most extraordinary pub, and £4,500 to be spent on improvements for customers, such as a new sound system, or perhaps a makeover to turn the beer garden into a relaxing haven to enjoy a quiet pint in the summer.

An expert judging panel will choose the overall national winner, where TV comic Paddy McGuinness – who has been fascinated by Britain’s extraordinary pubs since his mum saw a ghost when she was working as a barmaid in the Man and Scythe in Bolton – will drop in for a pint of John Smith’s to deliver the grand prize.

But they can only make the national final if chosen as a local winner, so make sure you vote for your favourite finalist in your area today.

Cheers, and good luck to our two finalists!
