Make nursing attractive career for UK applicants

-

IS our NHS Foundation Trust (Examiner, July 12) creating a shortage of nurses in the Philippines – or is there a considerable surplus with far more nurses than vacancies in that region?

A better policy would be for well-travelled senior managers to begin steps which amend the nursing career over here so that it attracts UK applicants.

Your report states 90 nurses are undergoing training for a test certificate in International English.

But – regardless of the test’s unspecified level of difficulty – how will the new recruits cope with the variety of dialects and lifestyles which flourish in any Yorkshire town: phrases and gestures acquired over a decade or two and highly unlikely to appear in some international test? Will they feel comfortable in their new roles? for those motorists who keep to speed limits, give way to oncoming traffic up hills. They also tailgate and don’t bother using indicators.

I was on Towngate on Saturday, July 1 and two cars with loud exhausts came speeding past me. Then the following Saturday, also on Towngate, a young lad with an L-plate but no helmet on, took a car at fast speed. It is a wonder he didn’t get killed and even hit a pedestrian.

We know they have to pick customers up but they should take more care on our roads. RE Henryk Zientek’s article about litter louts on Castle Hill and the poor state of the place.

It’s not really surprising and Kirklees Council have only themselves to blame for the state of the area.

They refused planning permission several times when the Thandi brothers wanted to build another hotel because their building had breached planning permission with its size.

Kirklees can never see the wood for the trees.

This situation would never have happened if the brothers had been allowed to build another hotel.

Even now the council seems to leave it up to everyone other than their employees to clean it all up. I WAS very sorry to hear about Lisa Youell’s dad Stuart in the Examiner.

Someone told me you have be aware of drinking straight from bottles which are left on crates as rats climb on the crate and urinate on them.

They said that a chap they knew had a similar experience so maybe this would be worth looking into. REGARDING the Charlie Gard call.

Surely there is something wrong with our society when a judge is asked to play God and decide whether a baby has a future. Shouldn’t it be the parent’s choice to determine such an issue?
