No sense in new finance deal to fund the hospital

-

THE Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Group has now revealed that it intends to negotiate another PFI to remove Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and expand the Halifax hospital. Where is the logic?

The only reason they are making these plans is because they are in financial difficulties with the present PFI at the Calderdale hospital. Have they lost all sense of reason?

They can afford to pay themselves salaries, (and that’s on top of their other earnings), yet claim they cannot manage the finances.

If Kirklees Council backs their proposed debacle of our hospital then the public of Huddersfield are in a pickle.

As a regular patient at both hospitals the utter waste is apparent for all to see.

A couple of small examples – asking patients to put plastic counters into boxes indicating what they thought of the service and providing forms asking if patients would recommend that particular department to friends and relatives should they need similar treatment is a laugh.

Where else would they go? How many people are employed dealing with these pointless statistics?

The biggest cost is sending patients to private hospitals for NHS treatment and 70% of local private hospital patients are coming from the NHS. Why? The simple answer is the hospitals cannot cope, yet the CCG want to run Huddersfield as a cottage hospital.

God help us. DIABETES UK is urging people who have secured a place in the Great North Run ballot to run for us and help raise muchneeded funds.

Most places in the iconic race are offered by ballot, with successful applicants then deciding which of their favourite charities will receive their support.

We want the lucky ballot winners to choose us. The money our runners raise will fund our vital work, and help us reach more of the 4.5 million people affected by the diabetes crisis.

All runners who join the Diabetes UK team will receive a branded vest, with iron-on lettering to personalise it and make it your own, as well as a crazy blue wig, a fundraising pack, and tips to help with fundraising and training.

You’ll also get support along the route from our two designated cheering points, and an invitation to our post-event cool down party, complete with massage therapists.

If you would like to run for Diabetes UK and help us realise our vision of a world where diabetes can do no harm, then please contact the events fundraising team on 0345 123 2399 or email events.fundraising@diabetes.org.uk.
