Moor extend lead at top by crushing big rivals

-

Rosebowl final will be played on Thursday, July 27, at Lindley Lib, sponsored by Armitage Leisure Services.

It is 1.30 start and all finalists are reminded about the change in the dress code, which is black trousers (not grey or black as in previous years). CLAYTON West were involved in an 8-1 scoreline for the fourth consecutive game when overwhelming second-placed Marsh Utd A in Section 1 of the Lockwood Windows Veterans League.

That pushed Marsh Utd down to fourth position as they reversed placings with their conquerors, writes

Meanwhile Milnsbridge A continued on their way at the top following an 8-1 scoreline of their own when beating Waterloo A, which stretched their lead to nine points.

Champions Lockwood Con failed to narrow that lead and stay third despite a 6-3 away win at Netherton Con, who were losing for the sixth consecutive match.

The top two went head-to-head in Section 2 and the visiting Crosland Moor won 7-2 at Thongsbridge A and extended their lead at the top to 10 points.

That allowed Brockholes A to move into promotion contention, being one point off a top two positions, while Broad Oak surprisingly lost 6-3 at home to Kirkheaton C&BC A to stifle their own hopes of moving in to the promotion frame.

Canalside A remain rooted to the foot of the table despite winning 5-4 at home to Kirkheaton Con, where the aggregate points were shared after a 119-119 scoreline.

Almondbury Lib continue to set the pace in Section 3 and are now 15 points clear following a 5-4 away win at Lindley Lib B.

Holmfirth had a good 8-1 home win over Bradley & Colne to move into contention while New Mill A went backwards as the result of an 8-1 defeat at Paddock, which saw the two teams go level in fourth place.

Change of leader at the top of Section 4 as

The Rosebowl draw is as follows: A Chapman (Meltham 4) v M Cox (Lockwood Con scr), G Brook (Netherton Con scr) v D Garner (Netherton Con 1), R Manning (Lockwood Con scr) v E Haigh (Lockwood Con scr), T Clegg (Crosland Moor 3) v D Frost (Crosland Moor 4). Golcar Lib B won 8-1 at home against Meltham C to send them clear of former leaders Marsden Park, who succumbed 7-2 at Skel Windmill B.

The Bistro KO is a competition that traditionally produces surprise results and the Round 3 games didn’t disappoint with three of the eight games going the way of the underdogs.

Leading the way were Bradley & Colne who are in the lower regions of Section 3 and drawn to play Section 1 strugglers Almondbury BC A.

That was their second Section 1 scalp having beaten Waterloo A in the previous round.

Then Slaithwaite from the lower half of Section 3 beat Section 2 leaders Crosland Moor 106-98. Next up were Brockholes A, third in Section 2, who beat Marsh Utd A, fourth in Section 1, 85-80 to complete the trio of upsets.
