Compassion­ate Selena helps survivors of fire

“It’s really hard to keep kids away from what’s happening in the world so Selena saw the fire on the news, which they watch in school.

“She was sent to see the nurture teacher, Mr Barton. He meditated with her and talked through how to turn the problem on its head.

“Instead of stressing about what she can’t do, he taught her to think about what she could to do to help.

“So they came up with the fundraisin­g idea together.”

Selena had a bun sale in school in June, she also made key rings designed like fruit and sold them to members of staff.

The year five pupil, who has two younger brothers at the school, made the key rings at home and other pupils’ parents donated buns to sell.
