Man accused of using sword to break into his mother-in-laws
A MAN went to his mother-in-law’s house and smashed his way inside using a sword, a court heard.
Lee Senior appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in custody over the alleged incident at a house in Sugar Lane, Dewsbury, on May 13.
Senior, aided by a sign language interpreter, pleaded not guilty to aggravated burglary, criminal damage and possession of a bladed article.
Prosecutor Alex Bozman said that several family members, including children, were at the house during the alleged break-in.
Senior, 32, is accused of smashing the conservatory window to gain entry before trashing it and climbing into the house by smashing another window. Mr Bozman told magistrates that the family were forced to barricade themselves into a bedroom while Senior tried to break the door down using a toilet seat.
He then allegedly tried to climb in through another window via the roof but lost his grip and fell from it.
Senior faces additional charges of harassment and sending a malicious communication, which are also denied.
Magistrates sent his case to Leeds Crown Court where he will first appear on August 15.
Senior, of Chatsworth Terrace In Dewsbury, was remanded in custody after Mr Bozman appealed their decision to grant bail.
