I am, of course, talking about the ale trail and the effect it is having on the residents of Slaithwaite and Marsden and on the ordinary visitors to these places on weekends.

Our local MP Thelma Walker says something needs to be done. Well, the answer is staring us in the face.

Take a leaf out football’s book and make the people who benefit most from this contribute something towards the cost of policing it and possibly towards the cost of a couple of public loos.

After all, these landlords who are raking it in each weekend are hardly likely to shoot themselves in the foot by refusing to serve those who have had a bit too much.

You can almost see the pound signs in front of their eyes.

Surely they cannot object to some of their profits, which must be vast considering the huge numbers of pint holders (mostly men) standing outside these pubs, not to mention those inside, being used to protect This 1961 Cadillac Fleetwood now restored to original immaculate condition over several years by Amanda Deville will be one of several classic cars on show at Hebden Bridge Classic and Vintage Car Show on August 5 and 6 the resident’s way of life.

They should take some responsibility for the misery which is caused to some people and cough up because they never know what sort of profit making restrictions may be put on these day trips if things continue as they are. Then who would be the losers?

The reason why Huddersfield CCG is struggling financially is because they amalgamated with Calderdale CCG and as a result acquired a massive debt with massive interest payments, money which is required to recruit the clinical staff needed to run Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and the wider healthcare system in Kirklees.

Let us not forget the top heavy non-clinical administrative staff, some paid up to 10 times a nurse’s pay, who are presently spending most of their paid timetrying I SEE that the health authority has been told to improve services by the ruling NHS. Does this also mean that all managers can expect not only no bonus pay but also salary reductions for doing a bad job?
