HUDDERSFIELD Paralympic skier Amber Meikle-Janney is moving ever closer to achieving her dream.

After two years as an invitational athlete, Meikle-Janney has now reached the Development Squad for the British ParaSnowSport Team and is working on competing in the Winter Paralympics in 2022.

Meikle-Janney has recently returned from 10 days training with the team in Norway and said: “I had the best time of my life”.

Since turning 18 this year Meikle Janney can now travel alone on these camps, and this is allowing her to develop her independence, which as a wheelchair user is difficult.

Meikle-Janney, who has the medical condition of Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, had to pull out of sixth form at Greenhead College due to poor health, but she has managed to push herself to continue training and racing for Great Britain.

She has competed in a number of indoor and outdoor races, all of which are excellent experience.

To train and race and replace equipment has been costing around £10,000 per year for the teenager.

She is currently sponsored until September with Chill Factore in Manchester, but family and friends continue to fund raise and recently held a wine tasting and raised not just their glasses but £590!.

The event was hosted by Rob Hoult at Hoult’s Wine Merchants in Huddersfield and was attended by over 40 friends and family.
