Jordan set to lead string of Giants returns

“We’re in much better shape than we were earlier in the year,” said Stone.

“With players coming back it adds strike and depth to our squad.

“Jordan (Turner) could have possibly played this week if we’d had a game, so he’s available which is very pleasing.”

Hometown favourite, back row forward Michael Lawrence, is also nearing a return after a lengthy time on the sidelines following knee surgery.

However, Stone hasn’t made a decision on whether the former England Knights player will be fit for the first Super 8s fixture.

“Michael is a bit of a 50/50 call at the moment,” explained Stone.

“He’s ripping into his training and chasing his tail to try and be ready.

“We’ll make some decisions around him next week when we assess who else is available.

“He is back in training and hopefully he will be ready.”

Stone also is hoping to include Alex Mellor after his recovery from a shoulder injury, but winger Aaron Murphy’s absence looks set to be prolonged as he recovers following an operation on a toe problem.

“Alex also has a fair chance of being available next week,” added Stone.

“He’s been out for a couple of weeks with an AC joint shoulder injury, so hopefully he’ll be available too.

“Murph, though, has had an operation on his toe so he’s still a bit away at the moment.”
