from Hull KR at the start of this season, is believed to be returning to Australia after spending six weeks on the sidelines with a hand injury.

Trinity are hopeful that new signing Tyler Randell could make an early arrival after the hooker signed just before the Super League deadline from Newcastle Knights.

However, due to having a visa hearing this week, Randell is unlikely to feature against the Giants and the 24-year-old’s debut is more likely to be in Trinity’s home derby against Leeds Rhinos a week on Thursday.

While Trinity finished fifth and are well-placed to make a push for Super League’s top four, opponents the Giants have only an outside chance of making the semi-finals given they are already five points adrift of Salford, who finished fourth.

However, Trinity skipper Danny Kirmond has sounded a warning that his former club could still pose a danger to the clubs competing in the Super 8s.

“In this last six to eight weeks they have played some really good stuff,” said Kirmond, who joined Giants from his hometown Featherstone Rovers in 2008 before moving on to Belle Vue four years later.

“We know it will be tough against them. We’ve had two close matches already, losing 24-16 there in February and then beating them 28-26 at our place.”

But the 31-year-old is happy that Trinity are in the right frame of mind to make a concerted push for the semi-finals.

“We’ve had a few days off to relax and get away from things,” said Kirmond.

“It has been a long season already and it’s been a good opportunity to get away and freshen up your mind rather than body as such.

“It’s been a stressful time coming into the Super 8s. A few of us who haven’t played many games did carry on training, but the rest had that break and then everyone came
