Looking for new kids on the block

THEY’RE the young ’uns making an impact in the world of business.

The Examiner Business Awards 2017 will recognise emerging talent with the new category of Young Entrepreneur of the Year, sponsored by Kirklees College.

The award will go to a young business person aged 30 or under, and will celebrate young business leaders who are building successful and growing businesses and are able to demonstrate excellent achievements. The new category builds on that of Young Business Person of the Year, which was previously awarded.

Collecting that accolade last year was Simon Iwaniszak, who launched Red Kite Games in 2012 at the age of 27 with an initial team of three developers. The company, based at the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre in Huddersfield, has gone on to employ more people and develop award-winning video games for several studios and publishers in the UK and overseas.

A spokesman for the sponsors said: “Kirklees College is delighted to be sponsoring a brand new category for 2017 – Young Entrepreneur of the Year – particularly as our ethos is to unlock the potential and nurture the talent of young people to achieve their goals.

“Kirklees College is proud to offer opportunities for all ages. As well as our huge 16-18 provision, we have a growing number of courses for adults and professionals, those seeking work or wanting to study at degree level. Our HE courses recently received a silver rating in the Teaching Education Framework, ranking us alongside some of the UK’s top universities.

“And we’re officially one of the best large training providers in the country when it comes to Apprenticeships. We’re currently fifth in the UK in the Government’s National Achievement Rates Tables for providers with over 1,000 apprentices.” Pictured are (from left) The Resin Mill sales director Mark Impey, Jacqui Gedman, chief executive at Kirklees Council, The Resin Mill operations director Scott Haley and managing director Jason Wainwright Kirklees companies to reach their full potential.
