Goswami thanks as he jets back to India

Shreevats Goswami in action for Delph and (inset) after winning the T20 Trophy last weekend. He has now returned to India all three major trophies last summer.

Tomorrow, the West Yorkshire Girls district teams have a special coaching session with some of the Yorkshire Diamonds at Woodlands CC, Oakenshaw (BD12 7AX).

West Yorkshire run girls teams at Under 9, 11, 13 and 15, playing other district teams in Yorkshire and have 70 players registered.

Yorkshire Diamonds are attending the Saturday session to help promoted girls cricket in the area off the back of England Ladies winning the Women’s World Cup at Lord’s.

It also coincides with the start of the Super League.

The Diamonds play their first fixture against Lancashire Thunder on Friday, August 11, at Headingley.

Cricket Australia has announced an agreement has been reached in principle with the Australian Cricketers’ Associatio­n to solve a pay dispute which threatened this winter’s Ashes series.

Australia’s leading players were left out of contract last month due to a dispute, which ended up in a standoff. The upcoming tour of Bnagladesh, hwoever, will now go ahead and, seemingly, the Ashes. A big crowd is expected at Elland on Sunday for the All Rounder Sykes Cup final between Broad Oak and Scholes, which starts at 1pm.

The well-supported Drakes Premiershi­p clubs are both bidding to win the famous old trophy for the first time in a long time.

Broad Oak haven’t been in the final since their last victory in 1985, while Scholes – who were beaten finalists two years ago – won the Cup for the only time in 1996. So something has to give!
