Yiadom deal breaks down as Reds swoop

-

TWO weeks ahead of the transfer window closing, Town had a close eye on two players without making any kind of signing themselves.

Firstly, right-back Andy Yiadom has rejoined the Barnsley squad this weekend after his proposed move to Town broke down.

Then former Town trialist Dimitri Cavare signed a two-year contract in the Championship – with Barnsley!

Yiadom looked set to join the Terriers this week after head coach David Wagner confirmed Town’s interest in him.

But the move is now dead in the water, with Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom confirming that Yiadom would rejoin the Barnsley squad ahead of their South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United this weekend.

In his pre-match press conference, Heckingbottom said: “Andy is back with us and could be involved this weekend.

“This won’t faze him, he’s a level headed lad. He’s our player.”

The Barnsley boss went on to say that the deal broke down between the player and Town, rather than between the clubs.

Rumours had surfaced at the end of last week that Yiadom was due for a medical, but neither club has suggested whether it was a failed medical which scuppered the deal or a disagreement over personal terms.

Former Town trialist Cavare has joined Barnsley from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais.

The right-back spent a fortnight training with David Wagner’s side earlier this summer, making his debut as a trialist against the Tykes in the 1-0 win at Oakwell on Saturday, July 22.

Although he made two further outings in the games against Udinese and SvB Stuttgart, Cavare was unable to earn a permanent deal.

However, his performances have done enough to earn a move to the South Yorkshire side for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract with an option of an additional year.

Speaking on the move, Barnsley boss Heckingbottom said: “This is a fantastic deal for the club and I am delighted to have secured the services of Dimitri.

“Everything I have seen of him has really impressed me, as well as many other clubs around Europe.

“He’s listened to everything we’ve had to say and fully believes in our project here.”
