Crackdown on partner abuse cases is needed

Richard Ingrams, former editor of Private Eye, Ginger Baker, drummer Jill St John, actress, Billy J Kramer, Sixties pop star, Bill Clinton, former US president, John Deacon, rock musician, Kevin Dillon, actor, Matthew Perry, actor, Erika Christensen, actress IT appears that the cases of men abusing their partners is on the increase. Every day in the Examiner there are more and more cases.

Reading the case in Wednesday’s Examiner and seeing the pictures of damage caused to the young girl are not acceptable and even more so when the thug that caused it only got a suspended sentence.

Our laws need an urgent upgrade, cases like this should carry a minimum five year sentence plus any other sentence the judge applies.

I find it hard to understand what motivates this kind of behaviour.

When these people meet a girl surely the way she is dressed or made up attracts them to her and if an offer of a date is accepted she should be treated with the utmost respect.

I always thought that when the couple start dating they do not abandon all their friends and pals. In my day if people started dating the pair were accepted by each other’s friends as part of the group.

If the girl talks to a man or the man talks to a girl it is how things are, it does not mean they are flirting.

However, it looks as if this type of abuse will continue to increase so our laws must be changed.

I hope that some of the abusers read this article and realise the damage they are causing to what could be a long, lasting, loving relationship. WE are now into the third week of the revised bus service replacing the 241 between Huddersfield and Houses Hill.

Those living in the centre of Lepton are well served, but every revision of the route extending to the ‘forgotten’ outskirts proves to be less of a service for those of us wanting to use public transport (and leave the car at home, if we have one).

Many of us, with the passing years, are not disposed to walking up hills.

It’s now Hobson’s Choice – I go by car.

No bus at 8.30am to get to the Leisure Centre as I endeavour to keep active every week.

I wonder for whose benefit is the detour taken by the new 85A route to and from town. In my opinion, just a time-wasting exercise – nobody gets on or off!
