Barrington back with food shows

SOCCER-MAD kids got a rare chance to meet their football heroes and see the Championship Play-off trophy.

Over the summer holidays Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) and the charity Huddersfield Town Foundation have been running children’s football camps across the district. They give kids the chance to brush up on their skills and meet other children.

As part of this programme all the children that have attended the camps were invited to a celebration at the Leeds Road sports complex.

There they had the chance to train with Huddersfield Town’s coaches as well as meet some of the players and see the special trophy. Town’s mascots Tilly and Terry also attended.

Huddersfield Town Foundation coach Richard Whiteley said: “It has been a fantastic event for the 100 children which saw us and KAL joining up.

“The event was a great success and everyone had a fun day which saw the children meet Terry and Tilly and a couple of the Town players.

“We look forward to working alongside KAL in the future and make it a big success and using their venues which will be a massive bonus for the Huddersfield Town Foundation.” Huddersfield Town’s Premier League games this season. Barrington is also continuing his outside catering service.

Barrington, who has appeared on TV alongside celebrity chefs Marco Pierre White, Gordon Ramsey and Gary Rhodes will also join Great British Bake Off star Nadiya Hussain on October 15 at the two-day Flavours Food Festival at Elsecar, South Yorkshire.

Said Barrington: “I used to do a lot of food demonstrations, but running the restaurant took over and I had to put that to one side.”

The third annual Cannon Hall Food Festival, which will run until Monday, will feature more than 100 artisan food vendors, live music, a fun fair and a beach.

Those featured will include cheesemaker Razan Alsous, of Yorkshire Halloumi. Razan, who fled Syria and arrived in the UK in 2012, has seen her business grow since scooping gold at the at the 2015 World Cheese Awards.

The festival will also see farm director Richard Nicholson and his brother Robert go head to head in the Great Yorkshire Cook-Off – a Ready, Steady, Cook style challenge where they have to make a meal from a box of mystery ingredients.
