‘Thoughtless’ speed limit plan a danger to village

-

An absolute waste of money. I would rather have old railway stations reopened than HS2 then much more freight can travel by rail. The Duke of Gloucester, Alison Steadman, actress Howard Clark, former golfer,

Steve Wright, disc jockey, Chris Boardman, former cyclist, Melissa McCarthy; actress, Gaynor Faye, actress, Macaulay Culkin actor, Chris Pine, actor, AN application to increase the speed limit on Lane Head Road in Shepley is ridiculous as this road must be one of the fastest and most dangerous in Kirklees.

You only have to look at the accident figures since this road was reduced to 30mph. The accident figures have been reduced hugely.

Increasing the speed limit will only serve to increase the number of accidents once again.

Nowhere in the Kirklees area, where a road runs through a village, where there is a busy school, shops, etc, are there 40mph limits.

This is a thoughtless thing to do as the 30mph speed limit equates to many drivers doing 50/60mph. Therefore the 40mph will equate to 60/80mph easily.

The traffic is increasing on the roads in and around Shepley considerably and as a resident I observe this daily.

The events put on at Cliffe House add to the difficult parking conditions which also add to road safety issues on Lane Head Road.

As a resident and from speaking to other residents in Shepley we feel we deserve a 30mph speed limit and particularly with new and obvious signage.

We should also have large signs at either end of the village as do many villages like ours up and down the country, asking people to Please Slow Down and Drive Carefully through Shepley.

I certainly feel, as I know most residents feel, not enough research and observations have been carried out to warrant this application and would be prepared to appeal this to the highest level. BRITISH sixth formers achieving some of the best A-level results seen for several years on exam results day was fantastic news and we should rightly be proud of these young people.

In The Boys’ Brigade (BB) we believe every young person should have the opportunity to reach their full potential – whether this be in school or another setting.

This year we are delighted that approximately 50 BB young people took part in our flagship King George VI Youth Leadership Training (KGVI) course.

Founded in the 1950s in memory of the monarch, King George VI, it has provided many young people throughout England and Wales with leadership skills.

The two-year KGVI course is aimed at installing key skills and developing and providing confidence and empowerment strategies while also covering key aspects of the Boys’ Brigade training to equip young leaders to lead activities in their local BB groups.

The course provides a qualification in First Aid and Holiday Leadership.

Through our programmes we are committed to providing more opportunities for children and young people to excel, achieve and have fun.
