Hot Town hit Vixens for six

-

TOWN Ladies swept last season’s First Division champions aside, beating Guiseley AFC Vixens 6-0.

And, if more clinical in front of goal, they could have won by an even wider margin.

With two games played, Town sit at the top of the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division, with six points, 10 goals scored and none against.

Kate Mallin opened the scoring for Town in the fourth minute when she was played in with a ball over the top and finished calmly.

A few minutes later and Emily Heckler had her first sight of goal, pulling her shot just wide.

Ex-Town player Debs Hastings broke away but her shot was blocked by Vicky Abbott, but in the 12th minute, Heckler got a little closer to scoring hitting the woodwork.

Heckler made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute when played in by Alex Hindwood and, just a minute later, scored her second with a header from close range.

Heckler hit a post again five minutes before the interval and it remained 3-0 at half time.

Guiseley were more organised in the second half but they eventually conceded again when second-half substitute and debutante Hannah Campbell scored with a header, within two minutes of her introduction.

In the 72nd minute another new signing, Danielle Whitham, hit a screamer to make it 5-0.

With 11 minutes left a Mallin free kick was headed home by Campbell for her second and Town’s sixth.

Fellow debutante Brittany Sanderson almost made it seven but her strong shot was well tipped over by the Guiseley keeper.

Former Brighouse Town captain Annabelle Cass was named player of the match.

On Sunday the first team travel to Newcastle United for a 2pm kick off in the preliminary round of the FA Women’s League Cup.

The other open-age teams kick off their seasons on Sunday when the Development team enter FAWPL action with a home game against Guiseley Vixens Reserves.

The Academy team kick off their season in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Women’s League Division One away at Chesterfield Ladies (2pm).
