Kevin’s 80th birthday bash boosts heart funds

-

NINE-YEAR-OLD Millie-Jo Stone has donated her lovely locks to youngsters less fortunate than her.

The Scissett Academy pupil held a fundraising event for the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs for children suffering from cancer or alopecia.

But not only did she help arrange a charity event at Skelmanthorpe Community Centre, she decided to offer up her own hair for those less fortunate children.

Millie-Jo was inspired to sacrifice years of hair growth because her mum Stacey has suffered with alopecia – unexplained hair loss – since she was a child.

Local hairdresser Bex Deutrom was called in to snip off her ponytail which will be sent to China by the charity to make into a wig.

The Clayton West youngster’s event last Friday featured face painting, tattoo art, jewellery making, rhythm time, a disco dome, a raffle and stalls.

She has also been selling handmade necklaces made by her grandma, dubbed Funkybat Jewellery, along with her own handmade hair accessories and mugs to raise more cash. the same amount to the children’s heart unit at Leeds General Infirmary.

Lance’s daughter Hollie and her fouryear-old son Skye have both been treated at the hospital for hole in the heart treatment.

Hollie, 23, was six when she underwent an operation to close the hole in her heart, while Skye continues to be seen by the unit due to the discovery of an extremely rare heart condition which can only be treated, not cured.

Hollie and Skye were just two of 530 babies born with the congenital condition, called Atrial Septal Defect, each year — or roughly one in every 1,500 births — which takes root during the early stages of development in the womb and leads to a hole between two chambers which causes blood flow problems.
