There was great bowling support from Under 9 players Nihal Gill, Harvey Smither, Harry Scollick and Harry Sullivan against a strong batting line-up, and they helped prevent a larger total to chase.

At the end of 20 overs, Kirkburton reached a solid net score of 261.

Denby Dale got off to a good start in reply with Ewan Radley and Josh Fowler providing a solid basis for the rest of the team to build on.

They changed their batting line-up for the Kirkburton game and the change really paid off.

Noah Wood and Ciaran Lawlor put on 25 runs between them in the middle order to put Denby Dale in a great position of net 247.

The next pair of Smither and Gill were tasked with not losing their wickets (you lose eight runs for a wicket in Under 11s) and they did just that.

They defended some strong bowling admirably, picking up six runs through wides.

The last pair pushed the score up to 273, however a wicket with the last ball of the 19th over by Zain Tahir put the game on a knife edge.

With the net score on 265 it went down to the last over.

Take a wicket and Kirkburton would win, keep them out and Denby Dale would win.

Facing the last over, Kane Davies-Mosley (another Under 9 player) fended off the first five balls before leaving the last ball to go safely through to the keeper and win the game by four runs.
