■■The Ladies Afternoon Drawn Doubles will be held at Crosland Moor BC on Wednesday, September 13.

The draw will be made on the day, so all bowlers should be at the green no later than 12.30 to be eligible. Dress code applies.

THE top individual bowler prize in Veterans League bowling is the Rose Bowl, sponsored once again this year by Armitage Leisure Services, which has been won by a bowler from Section 2 of the 10-Man League.

Congratulations to Tony Clegg of Crosland Moor who beat three Section 1 bowlers, including two Inter-district bowlers from Lockwood Con, on finals day. ALTHOUGH some matters already look cut and dried as the Ballcraft Engravers Huddersfield Bowling League enters the business end of the season, there are still plenty of things to play for over last few weeks to the September 30 finale.

Thongsbridge BC look to have already made the Subscription Cup safe for a third season on the trot, with Lower Hopton WMC A trailing in their wake but looking likely to also be safely in the runners-up position.

Hopton’s B team, however, are bound for relegation back to the Drayton Cup and, perhaps surprisingly, it looks likely either Canalside Sports or Lockwood Con may be the ones to accompany them down.

Moldgreen seem to be in prime position to return to the top flight at the first attempt from the Drayton Cup, with it looking like a straight fight between this

And this surprise result showed there are good bowlers playing outside the top section.

In the final he beat Mick Cox 21-15 but his closest challenge came from club colleague Derek Frost in a 21-19 scoreline.

Tony Clegg 21 Derek Frost 19, Ronnie Manning 21 Eddie Haigh 16, Dennis Garner 21 Graham Brook 19, Mick Cox 21 Alan Chapman 19. season’s surprise packet Broad Oak BC and Waterloo BC as to who will join them.

Those two actually meet this coming Saturday (Sept 2nd), the outcome possibly going some way to deciding which of them prevails at the end of the season. THONGSBRIDGE BC won the Yorkshire Cup.

They scored a comprehensive 97-point margin over Crosland Moor on a fast-running Lindley Bowling Club green, taking it 234-137.

After the first four jacks they had a lead of 34 points thanks to 21-5 and 21-6 wins.

The middle four turned the screw a bit more, increasing the score by another 49 points.

The back four finished the job off, winning by 24.

Scores: (Thongsbridge names first) Craig Gant 11 Gary Siswick 21, Mark Booth 21 Jason McMahon 5, Jack Dyson 21 Wayne Moseley 6, Richard Jackson 21 Terry Brook 18, Chris Kelly 21 John Webster 12, Ryan Clark 21 Mark Atkinson 12, Andy Cairns 21 Ross Mallinson 4, Ashley Daykin 21 John Greenhalgh 7, James Davison 21 Martyn Giles 12, Richard Atkin 21 Billy Shaw 12, Andy Sorsby 21 Jeff Normanton 7, Jonathan Sneddon 13 Ray Whitwam 21.

Finley Turton of Lindley BC has lost his orange coloured bowls. If found please contact club.

There is a Huddersfield Works Bowling League meeting on Monday (8pm start) at Bradley and Colnebridge WMC.

Main purpose of meeting is to sort venues and draw for the Works singles and pairs handicap competitions.

Cleckheaton Sports seem to be leading the way to relegation at the bottom, with Clayton West BC and Brockholes BC being the teams trying to avoid joining them.

The Littlewood Cup appears to be the most tightly contested.

Milnsbridge BC, Almondbury Lib and Crosland Moor BC B are in a three-way fight for the two promotion places, but Golcar Lib and Linthwaite Hall may also yet have something to say about that.

At the bottom, Linthwaite C&BC and Hemplow BC are in danger of the trap door exit, although Thongsbridge BC B and Shepley BC are not yet safe.

Lindley BC and Farnley Tyas are neck-and-neck at the top of the Bamforth Cup and their argument may well not be settled until they play each other on the last day of the season.

Kirkheaton Con B, Rastrick BC and Moldgreen Con B are in a three-way fight to avoid the drop to the Ingham Cup, while it seems Paddock I&C and Lindley Lib B will be the two teams coming up to replace them.

At the bottom of the Ingham, Primrose Hill Lib find themselves favourites for the drop to the Hinchliffe Cup, together with either Lockwood Con C or Almondbury Lib B, and it looks certain that passing them in the opposite direction will be Lowerhouses Community BC and Elland CA&BC.

Penistone & District BC and Thongsbridge BC C have the one promotion place from each of the Beaumont and Binns Cups respectively theirs to lose

Elland WMC and Lower Hopton WMC C have promotion nailed down, but it might well go right down to the wire as to which one of them wins the Taylor Cup.
