Probe launched in wake of scalding at nursery
COUNCILLORS are looking to overhaul car parking provision in Halifax town centre.
Calderdale Council said the level of town centre parking was “currently sufficient” but that demand for spaces was increasing following new developments such as the revamping of the Piece Hall.
Proposals for a new town centre parking strategy – including the wider use of smart technology – will be discussed by the council’s cabinet next Monday.
A major new car park – potentially on the site of Halifax Pool if that facility moves to a new location – is also being considered.
The strategy also recommends that existing and new car parks should be adapted to support sustainable and low emission electric vehicles and bicycles and calls for new meters and pay stations to be installed which would accept payment via mobile phone or by debit or credit card.
A Kirklees Council spokesperson said in a statement: “Officers from Kirklees Council’s Health and Safety and Children’s Services teams have visited the nursery and are in the process of conducting their investigation into this incident.
“The Health and Safety Executive and Ofsted have been informed.
“The nursery are fully co-operating with our investigation at this time.”
Chris Stoker, a director of the nursery at Netheroyd Hill Road, said previously: “As a nursery our thoughts are with Reuben and his family.
“As a nursery we reported this accident to Ofsted and other relevant agencies immediately.”
He added: “Our focus now is thoroughly investigating this situation, to provide the answers that mum needs.”
