Not really milestone I want to celebrate right now

-

“It’s been a big part of my life and a lot of the things I do outside of rugby I couldn’t have done without the Huddersfield Giants.

“They’ve always stood by me and looked after me, even when I first started and was really raw.

“They sent me out on loan to learn how to play the game but always had a plan for me and stuck by me when I came back.

“Two hundred games later I’m still here and I’ve still got years to go, so hopefully I can now go on to win something with my hometown team.

“On the whole there have been more positives than negatives this season.

“It’s still not been where we want or need to be but there are plenty of positives we can look at.

“We just need to concentrate on winning these last three games to make sure we finish the season well.

“We know we need to be better when we face Salford on Saturday – and we’re all eager to get back to winning ways.”

While McGillvary reached his milestone, Eorl Crabtree achieved the significant feat of being inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.

“It was sensational seeing Eorl inducted into the Hall of Fame against Castleford,” added former teammate McGillvary.

“Eorl used to coach me when I was at my amateur team, he was a young guy at about 16 or 17. I’m not sure if he was in the Academy or first team at the time, and he used to come down and coach us at the old pavilion.

“To see him receiving an achievement like that is awesome for a guy who I’ve known since I was a teenager and have played with, seeing him lift the League Leaders Shield in 2013 as well.

“It means so much, not only to the Giants but to the town.

“Anywhere you go people know who he is and I’m really happy for him and his family, who must be very proud.”

Crabtree is the 22nd player to go into the Hall of Fame but the first since 1979.

The England international prop forward, who won 14 caps, spent his entire 16-year playing career at his hometown club, making 423 appearances and scoring 79 tries.

The Senior Giants meeting will be held at PPG Canalside at 2.15pm tomorrow with Rick Stone and Chris Thorman there for a Q&A session. All welcome. WIGAN prop Ben Flower has pulled out of Wales’ 2017 World Cup squad after failing to recover from a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Flower, who won the last of his 17 caps in the 2013 World Cup, has been sidelined since late April but was included in head coach John Kear’s initial 38-man squad in the hope that he would recover in time.

“It’s a massive trip to be missing so I’m really disappointed that I can’t go,” Flower said.

“I’ve wanted to play for Wales for the last couple of years but I’ve had injuries that I’ve had to sort out.

“Although it’s a massive disappointment, I will definitely be playing for Wales again in the future and I hope to be involved next year.”

Half-back Ollie Olds, from West Brisbane Panthers, has also withdrawn after failing to recover from a ruptured ACL and has been replaced by Matty Seamark, another Australia-based player.

Seamark, who currently plays for Wynnum Manly Seagulls in the Queensland Cup, has won six caps and also featured in the last World Cup.

Kear said: “We knew that Ben Flower was a long shot because of his injury but I’d like to thank him for his efforts in trying to get fit in time.

“I look forward to seeing Ben in a Wales shirt again in the future.

“I’m very sorry for Ollie Olds because he has contributed a great deal to Wales’ resurgence and he’s unfortunately missing out on one of the biggest tournaments.

“I’m delighted to welcome Matty Seamark into the squad. He last played for us in the World Cup and is playing at a good level over in Australia with Manly.”

Seamark said: “I’m really pleased to have been called up to the squad; it’s a really strong squad to be a part of.

“It’s been a while since I last pulled on the jersey but it would mean a great deal to me to be able to do it again.

“To be a part of another World Cup would be a dream come true. Not only that, but it’s in Australia.

“To play in Townsville, in front of friends of family where I grew up, would be the biggest moment in my career to date.”
